On a selfish note I'm glad I didn't make the long trip from Sonerset for this game and was instead passing back through London from a week away.
Although an entertaining 45 minutes, 4 goals, 1 red card and lots of splashing, the referee got it completely wrong.
Having suspended the game after 25 minutes, he eventually reappeared to check on conditions he never once went over to the worst affected area (in front of east stand) to try to roll the ball etc, this would immediately had the game called off there and then, even at half time he never looked at that part of the pitch, I think if the game had been 0-0 he would have called it off much earlier than he did. The pressure of having a team leading shouldn't affect the decision but it obviously does with players and managers in his ear.
With us pulling a goal back and Doncastor being down to 10 men made his job slightly easier and with the safety of the dressing room he made the decision at half time.
The performance was indifferent, going forward we looked good, Turnball in goal made 2 or 3 excellent saves but at the other end last seasons reliable 3, Wiggins, Morrison and Solly look like they've never played football before.
A quick throw for the first goal caught Wiggins napping, a free header on the edge of the area allowed the ball to find its way to the goal line, to be cleared into a opponents face and into the net, fairly unlucky that apart from the free header. The conditions in our half certainly wouldn't have helped but overall but they have looked out of sorts in the 3 and a half league games so far.
Not sure why Doncastor were blaming us for the rain, as far as I'm aware Chris Powell hasn't risen that far up the ladder just yet.
Unfortunately the confidence gained away at Barnsley didn't work its way into the team for the start of this game but it was unusual in the conditions played in and we can look forward to Tuesday.
